Rather than set off a couple of rockets in your backyard or light some soggy sparklers on your balcony, let the professionals take care of the pyrotechnics by heading to a proper fireworks display. From the annual Ally Pally extravaganza to the free show at Blackheath, these are the best places to watch the fireworks in London.

Alexandra Palace

Ally Pally always put on a good show when it comes to the fireworks and this year is no different. Not only do they have one of the best viewpoints in London, they’ve also got a laser show, a giant bonfire, a German bier festival and a circus performance from Cirque Bijou.

Lambeth at Brockwell Park

After a successful first edition last year, the Lambeth Fireworks display is back and the theme for 2018 is ‘The Time Tunnel’. That means the display will be soundtracked by some of the biggest anthems of the past four decades, from Whitney to Oasis to Beyonce. There’ll also be a funfair, street food and bars to keep you entertained before the lights go up.

Battersea Park

Wandsworth Council has drafted in the the award-winning Jubilee Fireworks for this year’s display, with a bonfire also being lit by the Mayor. And if you need some pre- or post-fireworks treats, Circus West Village at nearby Battersea Power Station will see you right.

The fireworks at Blackheath don’t actually start until 8pm but that just means there’s plenty of time to enjoy the funfair before the display as this opens from midday…think how many spins on the waltzer you’ll be able to do in that time.
