Katy Perry just wrapped her ‘Witness’ tour and era, but isn’t moving on to new musical pastures just yet.

The Pop star covers the latest issue of Footwear News in support of her latest line and seized the interview feature to stress that the business venture is her new focus in there here and now.

When quizzed on her immediate plans (now she’s off the road), the 33-year-old said:

“I’ve been on the road for like 10 years, so I’m just going to chill. I’m not going to go straight into making another record. I feel like I’ve done a lot. I feel like I’ve rung the bell of being a pop star very loudly, and I’m very grateful for that.”

Explaining why “now” is the time do step back, she said:

“Well, I knew what I wanted to do when I was 9 years old, so everything else became secondary to that. I didn’t really pay attention to anything besides my craft — which is great, and I love it. I love making music, I love writing. But I don’t feel like I’m a part of a game anymore; I just feel like I’m an artist. I don’t feel like I have to prove anything, which is a freeing feeling.”

With music not a priori at present, Perry is turning to fashion.

Having started the Katy Perry Collection two years ago (in partnership with Global Brands Group), the ‘Bon Appetite’ singer is participating in QVC‘s “FFANY Shoes on Sale” breast cancer fundraiser.

As part of the campaign, she will appear on her first QVC broadcast to sell looks from her line and raise awareness for the cause.

Speaking on the venture, she said:

“[We’re] just trying to do our part and give back. My business is fairly new, and we’re always looking for unique ways to be part of different conversations, not just about the shoes.”

While it’s great to see Katy using her platform for good, the additional reality is that she needs a moment to regroup musically.

It goes without saying that – sans its tour – the ‘Witness’ era was a mucky, muddy mess that was mopped from memory almost as quickly as it was poured out.

And while for some acts the much sought after “comeback” is as easy as “dust yourself off and try again,” Katy’s will require a bit more tactile engineering.

Because she’s in a predicament where folk have moved on from the sugary flavor of Pop that was all the rage during the ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘Prism’ projects. Therefore, she’s tasked with adapting her “Katy Perry” proposition to 2000-and-now.
