This year has been a right downer so Somerset House is ensuring 2021 starts off strong (and making up for the fact that there’s no ice rink) by putting a fairground in their courtyard in January. Yinka Ilori is transforming the space with a large-scale multicoloured installation and bespoke flag commission with the dodgems part coming courtesy of Mercury Award-shortlisted musician Anna Meredith and BAFTA-winning sound designer Nick Ryan. The pair have created Bumps Per Minute, an interactive dodgems experience where every bump of the car generates part of a light and sound display that’s projected across the courtyard.

Pop-up king Jimmy Garcia is taking care of the food at Dodge, with a menu including cheese & meat sharing boards, fried cauliflower bites, venison hot dogs, duck burgers and build-your-own smores served to outdoor booths. There’ll also be a Dodge Lates programme running featuring DJ sets from the likes of Manara, Queer House Party, Supa Dupa Fly and Eliza Rose so you can bump around into the night.
